What is your perception of social media, do you think it is a fad or the biggest shift since the Industrial Revolution?

Social media is a tool used to connect and make interaction through technology such as: Facebook, Email, Twitter and Text messages. Social media has changed the way people interact in today's society, we rarely send letters to communicate. In today's world we are know using phones to communicate with each other more often, for example now people are having phone conferences with other that may be in another city or country. Social media is a fad because the media makes it feel that it is a necessity to have or to get, for example twitter is something that the celebrities are using and the media is making us get into the twitter world.
